FAQ'S

Q: How does it all work? Is there any cost?

From the outside, a lot of what we do can look similar, but there are actually two different ways artists work with us:

1. Seawall Sessions are fully curated and produced by us at no cost to the artist, but they happen on our own timeline and within the Seawall format. If you would like to be considered for a Seawall Session, apply HERE.

2. If you'd like to create something on your own timeline, we also offer a collaborative production model where we build around your specific vision and release plans. This can include custom lighting design, cinematography, audio capture, mixing, and mastering.

Please use our Booking Form to connect for a custom quote.

Q: How should I prepare for a Seawall Session performance?

  • Our sessions are built around capturing everything live in the room, with a performance element driving each song. We feature arrangements where the core of the song is being performed live, rather than vocals sitting on top of a fully produced track.

  • Acoustic or minimal band setups work best, though electric is totally welcome.

  • Artists typically bring their own amps and instruments as our backline is limited.

  • We don’t run vocal monitors or in-ears, we prefer artists play to the room.

  • For percussion, we recommend using cajóns, sample pads, or brushes rather than a full drum kit.

Seawall is built around capturing performances that feel alive, intimate, and human. We care much more about emotional presence and honesty than perfection.

Q: How many songs should I perform?

We recommend 3–4 original songs so there’s time to capture multiple takes of each. We do not splice together takes, and instead use the strongest full performance of each song as it was captured live.

Q: How large can my band be?

2–3 people is ideal for the size of our studio, though each session is considered case by case depending on instrumentation. If your arrangement is larger than what the studio can comfortably accommodate, we recommend reaching out for a custom production quote.

Q: How are the Seawall Sessions released?

Each song is released individually. The average timeline from recording to the first release is typically 2–3 months. We stagger releases across the artists in our catalogue to keep timelines moving consistently for everyone. We coordinate closely on release timing to make sure everything aligns properly. Performances are released across YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok.

Q: Do artists keep ownership of their music?

Yes. Artists retain ownership of their songs and underlying compositions. Seawall Sessions are presented as editorial live performance releases across social platforms. If an artist is signed to a label or publisher, we recommend confirming any necessary approvals before filming.

Q: Can Seawall Sessions be released on Spotify or DSPs?

Seawall Sessions are released through social platforms and are not distributed to streaming services like Spotify or Apple Music. If you're interested in releasing live recordings commercially, we offer separate custom production packages for DSP distribution.

Q: How long does a session take?

Most sessions take approximately 2–4 hours depending on the arrangement size and whether a podcast is included. Podcast availability depends on scheduling and production timing.

This includes load-in, soundcheck, filming, and resets between takes.

Q: Do you travel or shoot outside the studio?

Yes, while Seawall Sessions are primarily filmed in our Brooklyn studio, we also produce custom shoots and live performance captures in other locations depending on the project.

OUR STORY

Before Seawall Studios ever opened its doors in Brooklyn, it began as a shared vision between three college friends in Chicago.

The three of us met at the downtown Chicago seawall, a place that became our gathering point, our late-night confession booth, our date spot, our calm after chaos. Every night started and ended there. It was where friendships formed, where ideas were born, and where we learned how community can transform creativity.

Carrying that spirit back to New York City, Seawall Studios first opened in Williamsburg as a home for artists, musicians, and creators to collaborate. It was there that Seawall Sessions was born - curated nights full of live performances and local vendors, crafted to spotlight emerging talent.

As the work evolved, so did the vision. Seawall Studios grew beyond its original form, expanding its craft, refining its approach, and embracing a more intentional, elevated creative process. Now anchored in Sunset Park, we remain committed to creating a welcoming space where artists can be seen, heard, and empowered to make their best work.
